Kilmarnock woman dies in Route 17 pedestrian accident

A 51-year-old Kilmarnock woman died after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing Route 17 just south of Gloucester Court House on Saturday night.

Jean Calimer, 51, had been at Damon’s Sports Bar and Grill and was running across the road to her hotel room when she was struck by a northbound 2004 Chevy TrailBlazer driven by Samantha Ann Jones, 19, of Gwynn, according to First Sgt. Kevin Barrick of the Area State Police Office.

Barrick said Calimer was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at 10:13 p.m. Barrick said he did not believe any charges would be filed in connection with the accident but a final determination would be made by the Gloucester Commonwealth’s Attorney. Trooper A.W. Pittman investigated the accident.

Calimer’s death marked the 14th traffic fatality in the county this year.
