Kekoka Yoga Retreat goes virtual

A “virtual” yoga retreat was held this past weekend at YMCA/APYC Camp Kekoka in Kilmarnock. “We’ve been holding this retreat the third weekend in May for the past 10 years and weren’t about to stop now,” camp director Cassie Leichty said.

COVID-19 protocols meant that an in-person retreat was not possible this year. Christine Wiggins of the Retreat Committee suggested holding a virtual retreat to keep the spirit and connection of the weekend going strong, said Susan Johnson, who co-chaired the event, along with Art Gilbert.

“The idea that we’re not separate is a central yogic teaching, and even though we couldn’t be together physically, we wanted participants to feel the connection that no amount of physical distancing could diminish,” said Johnson.

Zoom sessions, held on the scheduled retreat days of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, featured live yoga classes against a waterfront backdrop on a sunny field of colorful flags and painted signs, said Gilbert. Many of the 90 register...
