Keeping kids reading

Long summer days can be tough on a kid without a book to read, and Mathews Memorial Library has been closed to its patrons, so the library decided to take books to children this summer via a bookmobile. Every Thursday, the Mathews Memorial Library Book Mobile—a snazzy little yellow-and-black mini Cooper—tootles around the county, visiting three sites one week and three the next. Last week, Cooper owner Carol McCormack (not pictured) stopped by Port Haywood Post Office, Beulah United Methodist Church, and Bethel United Methodist Church, where Joy Drummond and her granddaughters Julia, left, and Fiona checked out books to read. Today, the bookmobile will be at Gwynn’s Island Civic League from 10-10:30, Mathews YMCA from 10:45-11:15, and Cobbs Creek Post Office from 11:30 a.m. to noon.
