Keeping it local every third Thursday, all year long

Beginning this month, a new initiative is being launched to encourage residents to shop local on a monthly basis.

Chesapeake Bank, Gloucester County Chamber of Commerce and Mathews County businesses are launching the Third Thursday The Buck Stays Here initiative on May 21. All locally owned and operated businesses and nonprofits are invited to participate.

The monthly Third Thursday The Buck Stays Here event is an expansion of the biannual Shop Local Day celebrations first introduced by Chesapeake Bank in the fall of 2012. The third Thursday concept takes The Buck Stays Here initiative beyond two days a year and promotes keeping it local one day a month, specifically, the third Thursday of every month.

“Our objective is to motivate area residents to not only shop and bank locally but also to dine, hire service providers and professionals and support nonprofits locally on this dedicated day each month,” said Chesapeake Bank CEO and president Jeff Szyperski.
