Keeping a holiday tradition alive

Members and friends of American Legion Post 83 in Mathews did not let the COVID-19 pandemic interrupt their decades-long tradition of delivering Christmas dinner to county residents alone on the holiday. Meals on Wheels recipients and others received the meals, 104 in all this year, created by Mathews caterer Shelly Williams and containing turkey and all the trimmings. The legion organizers packed and delivered the feast. Among those taking part were, from left, Hannah Roscher, Tim Roscher, Libby Crawford, Morey Alexander, Ray Fleischer and Bonnie Smith, preparing to pack the meals at the post home in Hudgins. Also participating and delivering were Lynda Alexander, Al Smith, Ron and Debbie Lambert, Lori Roscher, Butch and Judy Smith, Mike Lang, Rosemary and Jim Eaton, Willy Hubbard and Mary Ann LaFriniere, Jim and Mary Warren, Mindy and Marvin Abram, Sheryl Hamilton and Jerry L’Heureux.
