KATHRYN MILDRED DEHNERT

Kathryn Mildred Dehnert, age 79, left our family to be with the Lord on Aug. 27, 2015.

Kathryn was born in Astoria, on Long Island, N.Y., on July 16, 1936. She attended Catholic schools until she graduated.

She worked as a bookkeeper in her early years for Grand Union grocery chain on Long Island.  In 1958, she married the love of her life, Herbert. They moved to Mathews, Va., in 1959. It was in New Point that they raised their three children.

Early on, she was an active member of the St. Therese Catholic Church in Gloucester, Va., and later a member of the Church of Francis de Sales in Mathews. She was a member of the New Point Homemakers Club, the New Point PTA, one of the first volunteer dispatchers of the Mathews County Rescue Squad, and a member of various other organizations. She worked at various jobs throughout her years, with the last one being a dispatcher for the Mathews County Sherriff Office where she retired in 1998.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved people, she loved to travel, which she did as often as possible. She loved baseball and could always be found at the ball park cheering on her kids and grandkids. She was high-spirited and loved life. She was loved by so many and this world is a much smaller place without her.

She is survived by her husband, Herb, of 56 years; her three children, Theresa, Christine and Charles; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at 6:30 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home in Mathews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 3 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Francis de Sales, Mathews.
