Katherine Dianne “Di” Baker, 81, of Gloucester, Virginia, died on December 4, 2025 after several years of declining health. Di was born on March 18, 1944 in Kannapolis, N.C., a daughter of the late Marion James Baker and Eva Kathleen Baker. Growing up, Di assisted her mom with her younger brother Larry. In 1952, their dad moved the family to the Tidewater area of Virginia to work in the shipyard. They lived first in Newport News, later moving to Hampton and then to Yorktown. Di attended high school in Hampton. In the mid ’70s, Di moved with her parents back to Kannapolis, N.C., where she continued to live with her mom after her dad died in 1995. She and her mom were inseparable, often wearing matching outfits. They were frequently mistaken for sisters. Di loved her church, Calvary Baptist Church in Kannapolis, visiting with relatives, her dogs (especially Sasha), her goldfish pond, gardening, raking leaves, and keeping the yard tidy and clean. She was known for her stylish appearance and her feisty personality. Di’s mom passed in 2016. Shortly thereafter, Di’s brother Larry brought her to Virginia to live with him, first in Poquoson, then in Hayes, Virginia. In her final few years, Di resided at Walter Reed Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester, where she received attentive and loving care from the staff until her passing. Di is survived by her brother, Larry James Baker and his wife Teresa of Knoxville, Tenn.; nephews, Brian James Baker (wife Denice) of Poquoson, Va., and Scott Devin Baker (wife Emily) of Hayes, Va., and numerous cousins and great-nieces and -nephews. A private service with family is planned for a later date.
Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home & Crematory.
