JVs post wins over Raiders, Indians

The Mathews High School junior varsity softball team improved to 4-1 with wins over Rappahannock and Northumberland this week.

Last Wednesday, the JV Lady Devils hosted the Raiders, eager for a rematch with the team that took a 10-9 extra inning win the week before. MHS came out strong, scoring five runs on five singles and two sacrifices in the first.

The Raiders tied it up with runs in the second and fourth innings. Mathews got three runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain an 8-5 lead, on the way to a 9-7 victory.

Taylor Locey pitched the distance for the Lady Devils to earn the win, striking out three batters and walking five. Caroline Crittenden batted 4-for-4 with four singles and two runs scored. Lindsey Dalton was 3-for-4 with two singles, a double, and two RBIs. Locey was 2-for-4 with two singles and two RBIs. Ashley Foster added a single, a sacrifice, and two runs scored.
