JV Lady Devils split pair against Northern Neck foes

The Mathews High School junior varsity softball team picked up a slaughter-rule victory over the visiting Lancaster Red Devils on Friday night, and suffered a tough 4-1 loss on Monday on the road against Rappahannock.

Lancaster

The Lady Blue Devils had little trouble dispatching Lancaster on Friday night, winning by a 13-2 margin in five innings. Mathews had 13 hits contributed by Ellie Armistead and Shayla Wheeler each with three; Hannah Robins and Chesapeake West with two apiece, and one hit each from Hannah Smith, Jade Davis and Rebecca Mullins. With Justice Parlett pitching to eight batters and tallying three strikeouts and Armistead pitching to 12 batters and striking out nine, the Blue Devil defense was unstoppable.

Rappahannock

In a seven-inning contest, the Devils came up short against the home-standing Raiders, 4-1. Mathews had eight hits contributed by Raven Schlosshan (three), Ashley Foster (two) and Hannah Smith, Ellie Armistead and Shayla Wheeler (one each).
