JV Lady Devils’ record at 3-3

The Mathews High School junior varsity volleyball team dropped two matches before adding a win this week. The Blue Devils now hold an overall season record of 3-3.

The team traveled to Northumberland last Thursday and got a poor start, down 11-0 after the first 11 serves. The Mathews girls fought back, but lost the set, 25-12. The Devils continued to play well into the second set, winning 25-20 and forcing a match-deciding third set. The Lady Devils were outscored, 15-7, in the final set and lost to Northumberland for the second time this season.

Emily Carmine led in assists with four followed by Kate Respress with two. Harley Haydon led in kills with nine, followed by Taylor Locey with four, Caroline Crittenden with three, Tori Hicks with two, and Carmine and Victoria Bing with one kill each. Hicks served four aces in the match while Bing, Crittenden and Locey each served one. Mathews traveled to Rappahannock High School Monday evening, dropping another three-set match to the Raider...
