JV Lady Devils post two wins

The Mathews High School junior varsity volleyball team added a pair of wins last week, defeating both Lancaster and Essex, to improve the team’s overall season record to 5-3.

The Mathews team traveled to Lancaster last Thursday where it won the match in three sets after getting off to a sloppy start. MHS dropped the first set, 25-19, before coming back to take the final two 25-14 and 15-4.

Harley Haydon led the team in kills with two; Caroline Crittenden and Taylor Locey followed with one each. Emily Carmine led in assists with four while Kate Respress had one. Victoria Bing served 10 aces during the match, Tori Hicks served eight, Lauren Mitchem served four, and Crittenden and Haydon each served three. The girls traveled to Essex Monday night to face the Trojans and won in two sets, 25-16 and 25-12. Bing and Haydon each had one kill. Carmine and Respress each had one assist.
