JV Lady Devils improve to 2-0

The Mathews High School junior varsity volleyball team defeated Washington and Lee Tuesday night in two straight sets on the Lady Eagles’ home turf.

The Lady Devils came in strong and blew through their first set with a score of 24-5. Washington and Lee’s JV team put up a fight in the second set, but the Lady Devils remained strong and finished the game with a 25-20 win. 

Lady Devil setter Morgan Crittenden led the team in serves with 12 aces. Olivia Coons also contributed three aces, and Brooklyne Fulford and Autumn Jenkins each scored two. 

Taylor Wood piloted the JV Lady Devils’ offense with nine attacks and three kills. Crittenden followed with eight attacks and two kills, and Aly Jackson with one kill.

Along with the aggressive offense the JV Lady Devils showed, Sarah Ashbaugh defended the Lady Eagles’ offense with a solo block.
