JV Lady Devils get two wins

The Mathews High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team picked up a pair of wins last week, beating Conference 42 foes West Point and Middlesex. Scrappy offense and stingy defense contributed to the double digits wins.

The Devils travelled to West Point last Tuesday, winning 39-20. As usual, the gym was buzzing with Pointer fans cheering and jeering, but this didn’t bother the Mathews girls as they made easy work of West Point.

The press from the Lady Devils started the demise of the Pointers with Mathews never looking back.

Ellie Armistead led the way with 20 followed by Belle Massimino with eight and Skyller Worley with five. Jade Davis, Sierra Davis and Hannah Robins each scored two points. Rival Middlesex visited Mathews on Friday hoping to get revenge for the Chargers’ loss at their home court, but it didn’t happen. The Devils beat the Chargers, 36-21, and completed the sweep.
