JV Lady Devils finish season with two wins, loss

The Mathews High School junior varsity softball season came to an end Tuesday night with a 7-6 loss to the Middlesex Chargers. But in the last week of play, the Lady Blue Devils also scored wins over Lancaster and West Point.

Lancaster

The MHS girls came up with an impressive offensive output last Wednesday to defeat the Lancaster Red Devils, 17-7. While the MHS defense had one shaking inning that allowed six of Lancaster’s seven runs, the offense just kept pounding the ball all six innings.

Leading the way for Mathews were Abigail Hudgins with five hits; Hannah Robins, Vallin Jenkins, Kelsey Ryan and Kristen Frank with two hits each, Chesapeake West and Katelyn Blake with one hit apiece. Jenkins had another solid performance in the circle going all six innings, giving up four earned runs on seven hits and five strikeouts.
