JV Lady Devils fall to Indians

The Mathews High School junior varsity girls’ team completed a season sweep of Middlesex on Friday night, beating the home-standing Chargers, 32-17. The Mathews JV girls beat Middlesex, 34-25, on Jan. 4.

On Friday night, the Mathews girls scored 17 first-half points, adding 15 more in the last two quarters. Stacie Thomas led in scoring with 11 points, followed by Skyller Worley with seven, Chesapeake West with six, Jade Davis with four, and Alejandra McCurry and Abigail Hudgins with two points each.

The MHS girls weren’t as fortunate Monday, as they fell to Northumberland in overtime, 32-30. The Indians and Devils battled back and forth, with the teams knotted at 27-27 at the end of regulation play.

Davis led Mathews with 12 points, Connie Johnson followed with eight, Worley with six, and Hudgins and West with two apiece.
