JV Lady Devils cruise past Cavaliers

The Mathews High School junior varsity girls’ basketball game originally scheduled for Friday was moved up to last Thursday to beat the winter weather that was looming. The Devils made easy work of the visiting Cavaliers from King William, winning 35-14.

Unable to beat the full-court press, the Cavaliers turned the ball over which resulted in buckets for Mathews. Jumping out to such a large lead, the Lady Devils never looked back. Similar to the games of the week, all the players contributed in some way, with all but four scoring.

Ellie Armistead led the effort with 19 points, followed by Belle Massimino with five and Emily Carmine with four. Hannah Robins, Malia Lewis, Skyller Worley each had two and Alex Mills chipped in one point. The Devils’ game against Gloucester was cancelled Monday; hopefully it will be rescheduled so the girls could get revenge for the MHS girls’ only loss of the season.
