After a weeklong break, the Mathews High School jayvee softball team returned to the field Tuesday, hosting King William. Mathews fell to the undefeated Lady Cavaliers, 7-0.
The game was the second time these two teams have met; the first time, the MHS girls fell by a 14-0 margin. Although the Mathews’ bats still could not touch the King William pitcher, the Blue Devil defense and pitching showed a marked improvement from the previous outing.
Eighth grader Kelly Adams pitched all seven innings, holding King William to seven runs on 10 hits while the defense behind her only committed two errors.
The King William pitcher struck out 18 Blue Devil batters while allowing only two hits—one each to Emily Hudgins and Carole Bell.
