JV Lady Devils beat Pointers, Chargers

The Mathews High School junior varsity volleyball team ranked up a pair of victories this past week over two Tidewater District foes—West Point and Middlesex.

The Lady Devils defeated the visiting Pointers two games to none in last Thursday’s Dig Pink game for Mathews.

On Tuesday, the MHS girls traveled to Middlesex for their Dig Pink contest. The JV Lady Devils took a fall in the first game to the JV Chargers, but fought hard to win the next two, and the match. Mathews lost the first 25-18, coming back to win the next two by margins of 25-21 and 19-17.

One factor that contributed largely to the defeat against Middlesex’s JV volleyball team was the Lady Devils’ offense. Morgan Crittenden led the team with 24 successful attacks, including two kills. Following Crittenden, Aly Jackson had 15 successful attacks, with five kills, then Taylor Wood with 10 attacks, and one kill. Also contributing was Jasmine Ashberry with eight attacks and two kills.
