JV girls post lopsided wins over Essex, K&Q

The Mathews High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team scored a pair of lopsided victories at home last week over Essex and King and Queen.

Last Wednesday, the JV Lady Devils easily defeated the Essex Trojans, 46-22. Mathews stayed in control throughout the entire game with a diet of steady offense and stingy defense.

Ellie Armistead (23 points), Belle Massimino (nine points), Emily Carmine (seven points), Brooke Barefoot (three points), Skyller Worley and Alex Mills (two points each) provided the offense for Mathews. The JV Devils continued their dominance over King and Queen on Friday, winning by a 49-19 margin. The Tigers appeared very young and inexperienced, allowing some of the young MHS players to get on the court to gain experience. Every Lady Devil contributed in some way, led by Armistead with 30 points.
