JV field hockey on way to shutout season

The Gloucester High School junior varsity field hockey team is 11-0 and on its way to a shutout season. The junior Dukes’ most recent win was a 3-0 victory over visiting Poquoson last Thursday.

Eighth grader Hannah Symonds scored the first goal of the game and freshman Peyton Sutton added the other two. Coach Alexis Lester gave the MVP award to goalie Madison Walters who worked endlessly to keep the game a shutout.The Gloucester jayvees defeated visiting York, 8-0, for the second time this season on Sept. 28. Sutton scored first and goals were added by Mason Welsh, Abigail Junker, Chloe West and Mary-Ashton VanFossen to make it 5-0.

West then took advantage of a penalty stroke and Maddy Kadel and Ellary Miller closed out scoring to make it 8-0. West was given the MVP award for her hard work on the field and for executing the penalty stroke.
