JV field hockey improves to 8-0

The Gloucester High School junior varsity field hockey team improved to 8-0 on Tuesday with a 22-goal shutout at Northumberland. 

Cara O’Beirne led the junior Dukes with four goals while Meg Teagle and Christina River had three each. Hannah Hamay and Alyssa O’Beirne had two each and goals came from Faith Ronquest and Kate Neikirk.

Scoring their first goals of the season for GHS were Maddie Johnson, Caroline Putnam, Erin Bell, Kylie Frush, Abbie Thornton and Meadow Spears. The Gloucester juniors have been dominant statistically. They have outscored their opponents, 84-0, over eight games and fired 335 shots on goal while allowing none. They have also earned 120 penalty corners without having one designated against them.

GHS coach Joe Dougherty said his players’ hard work and commitment to each other with a common goal has led them to be very cohesive and strong.
