JV Dukes fall to Phoebus, 6-0, in defensive battle

The Gloucester High School junior varsity football team lost a 6-0 defensive battle with the Phoebus Phantoms on Monday at GHS.

Gloucester coach Mike Shaffer said this was the closest any GHS football team has come to beating Phoebus in the past 10 years. “The team fought hard throughout the entire game and did not quit,” Shaffer said. 

The Gloucester defense was led by Adam Eckstein with 14 tackles, including two for a loss. Jordan Mumford had a touchdown-saving interception in the end zone, defended a pass on third down and contributed three tackles.

Austin Glockner had eight tackles and Jalen Gardner and Thomas Conroy had seven each. Wyatt Sidney had a good day in the secondary with four tackles and defended a third and long pass. 

The lone score of the game was on a Phantom run after a fumbled punt set up Phoebus at the Dukes’ 3-yard line.
