JV Dukes beat Devils in boys’ basketball

The junior varsity boys’ basketball programs in Gloucester and Mathews ended their seasons last week, including a matchup between the Dukes and Devils last Thursday that saw Gloucester take revenge for an earlier battle between the two squads.

Gloucester won that game on its home court, 51-45. The MHS JV boys went on to defeat the Rappahannock Raiders on Friday night, 57-50, to close out the season.

In last Thursday’s matchup between the two squads, Gloucester opened up a big lead and although Mathews closed the margin in the closing minutes, it wasn’t enough.

“We started out with way too many turnovers and missed way too many free throws,” Mathews JV head coach James Hutcheson said. “We had a big fourth quarter to get in contention but lost by six.
