JV Dukes beat Denbigh; improve to 3-1

The Gloucester High School junior varsity football team notched a 20-6 win over host Denbigh on Saturday. It was the third consecutive win for the junior Dukes, who moved to 3-1 on the season.

Malakyi Cooke was an offensive standout for Gloucester. Cooke racked up 91 rushing yards and had a pair of touchdowns in the win. Destin Forrest also scored a TD and kicker Thomas Reinshagen hit two of his three point-after attempts.

Gloucester coach Mike Shaffer said Reinshagen also kicked a 57-yard punt that pinned Denbigh back near the goal line in the third quarter. Denbigh scored in the fourth quarter after fighting a Gloucester defense made up largely of substitute players.

On defense for the Dukes, Jalen Gardner had two interceptions and Ben Paul had one. Josh Seaton also contributed a fumble recovery. “Everyone did really well.
