JV Devils split pair of district games

The Mathews High School junior varsity baseball team split a pair of Tidewater District games in recent action. The JV Devils lost to West Point on Tuesday, April 23, on a walk-off hit by the Pointers, 7-6. On Thursday, the Blue Devil bats came alive to beat Middlesex, 15-6.

Daniel Moughon was the starting pitcher against West Point, pitching three and two-thirds of shutout ball. Mathews jumped out to a six-run lead, but the Pointers’ bats heated up and they won the game in the last at-bat. 

Moughon was the starting pitcher once again on Thursday, going three and two thirds innings. Mathews’ bats were hot, hitting 14 hits, scoring 15 runs. Moughon and Dawson Adams led in hits with six combined.

The JV Devils, who now hold a 5-5 record, were scheduled to travel to King William yesterday and host King and Queen Central today. ...
