JV Devils holding strong

A young Mathews High School junior varsity squad, headed by returning coach Pat Beattie, has recently began to hit its stride as a unit, playing some excellent baseball.

The JV Devils this season are made up of sophomore Chad Beattie; freshmen Brent Smith, Tyler Moore, Mac Owens, Chandler Bell and Haden Higginbotham, and eighth graders Zach Dehoux, Patrick Blake, Christian Williams, Braden Hunley, Chase Lewis, Jovan Johnson and Cole Huff. 

The JV Devils have posted an 8-3 record so far, falling only to Lancaster, Rappahannock and King William. The team’s most recent win over the West Point Pointers Tuesday night was a solid victory. The Devils kicked off the game with four runs in the first two innings, led by Moore being hit by a pitch, and Bell and Blake with singles of their own.
