JV Devils fall to Pointers, 35-31

With one game remaining on its schedule before Christmas break, the Mathews High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team traveled to West Point with high hopes of pulling out a win. The Blue Devils fought hard, but ended up losing the low-scoring affair, 35-31.

The Pointers jumped out to an early lead at the start of the game. Mathews only had six points in the first half, with just a single point in the second quarter. Down 12 points starting the second half, the Devils were ready to make a comeback.

Putting heavy pressure on the Pointers’ ball handlers in the fourth quarter, they outscored the home team, 19-6. Unfortunately, they couldn’t take the lead, and ended up losing by four points.

The high scorer for the Blue Devils was Will Hutcheson with nine points. He was followed closely by Christian Williams, who had eight. The JV Devils hope to use their time over the Christmas break to work on some key areas in their game. “Some things that we really nee...
