JV Devils 0-2 in Christmas Tournament

The Mathews High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team went 0-2 in the Christmas Tournament held last Wednesday at West Point High School. The Blue Devils suffered losses to King William and the host Pointers.

In the tournament opener, the JV Devils fell to the Cavaliers, 47-20. Landon Green was the leading scorer for Mathews with five points. He was followed by Justin Ashberry with three points; Patrick Blake, Caleb Thomas, Nasir Thomas, Noah Iveson and Damien Walters with two points apiece, and Jerry Velez and Bryce Fulford each with one point.

The team had a break in between games, and then they faced West Point High School. Mathews was trailing by 12 points in the final minutes when a scoring burst from Caleb Thomas brought the Devils to within two points. However, Mathews lost the contest, 35-33.
