JV boys drop games to Cavaliers, Pointers

The Mathews High School junior varsity boys’ basketball team dropped games to King William and West Point during the week. The JV Devils were scheduled to play a third game, but that contest, against Gloucester on Monday, was cancelled due to last weekend’s snowstorm.

Last Thursday, the MHS JV boys traveled to King William. The Devils fell to the home-standing Cavaliers, 57-27. The Devils struggled in the first half against the Cavaliers’ 1-3-1 zone, trying to force lots of bad passes and turning the ball over often.

Mathews scored 14 points in the first half to King William’s 28. Going into the third quarter down 14, Mathews was aiming for a comeback but the Devils continued to struggle in the half court, and couldn’t generate any offense. Numerous turnovers by the Devils, many unforced, led to the lopsided final score.
