Juneteenth to be marked on Saturday, June 19

A Juneteenth commemoration will be held to recognize and celebrate Black culture and freedom from 5:30-7 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, at First Baptist Church Cemetery, 6188 George Washington Memorial Highway, Gloucester.

Co-sponsored by the Gloucester Union Relief Association, Woodville Rosenwald School Foundation, and Circle Up Middle Peninsula, the event will be held outdoors, rain or shine. Guests are urged to bring a mask, a chair, and an umbrella.

The ceremonies will be simulcast on-site via FM radio, so those attending may remain in their vehicles to listen.

Three Rivers Health District will have COVID-19 vaccines available onsite for ages 12 and over on a first-come, first-served basis.

Concessions will be available for a donation to the First United Baptist Church’s youth group.
