Judith W. “Judy” Mitchem, 82, of Mathews, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2019.

She was member of Salem United Methodist Church. Judy, affectionately known as “Nanny,” loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also was a beloved babysitter for her fellow church members and friends in the community.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Russell Mitchem Sr.; a son, Kevin Lee Mitchem, and a daughter-in-law, Janice Lee Mitchem.

She is survived by two sons, Walter Russell Mitchem Jr. (Sue) and Dale Scott Mitchem (Sherin) and daughter-in-law, Sara Mitchem Hogge. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Karen (Rob), W.G., Megan (Quinton), Madalyn (Nick), Rachel (Zach), Daniel, Lisa and Bart (Susan), and her great-grandchildren, Shane, Van, Mavis, Aiden, Earl, Josh, Lauren, Leah and Joseph.

The family received friends on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019, from 6-7 p.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Diggs. A funeral service was held at the church on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2019, at 11 a.m.; burial followed at Windsor Gardens Cemetery, Dutton.
