JUDITH P. SCHICK

Judith P. Schick of Mathews County, left the surly bonds of earth on Sunday morning, Jan. 24, 2021. The daughter of Joseph and Josephine Poksienski, born “Judith Lynn” in Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1946, she attended Our Lady of Czestochowa Parochial School, and St. Aloysius Academy. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science, she graduated from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and worked as an analyst for the National Security Agency. In 1976, she was called to the skies to fulfill her wanderlust dreams by becoming a Pan American Airlines stewardess. She traversed the globe for several years before leaving to raise a family.

Judy is survived by her husband Al, a retired RCA engineer; children, Mathew and Heather (Brian); grandchildren, Zoe, Griffin, Casmir, Gwendolyn, and numerous cousins and friends. Judy and Al migrated to River Country in 2000 from Indianapolis; she brought her travel muse and small business interests along with her and pursued her entrepreneurial ambitions with Tidewater Travel as the owner/operator, providing travel assistance to many in our community. A small business owner, she was active in the Mathews County Chamber of Commerce. She was the founder of the Newcomers, a social group, and a member of Francis de Sales Catholic Church. The family will receive friends Monday, Feb. 1, 2021, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, 3098 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes, Va. 23072. Masks are required for entry and social distancing will be mandatory. A funeral Mass, conducted by Father Gerald Kaggwa, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, at Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 176 Lovers Lane, Mathews, Va. 23109, followed by interment at Windsor Gardens Cemetery & Mausoleum, 80 Soles Lane, Dutton, Va. 23050.
