Joyce signs to play at Chowan

Gloucester High School senior Hannah Joyce signed a letter of intent earlier this month to attend Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C., and play softball under coach Amanda Balduf.

Joyce was named the 2011 Peninsula District Player of the Year and was an all-district first team and all-region shortstop as a junior. She was also named an all-district and all-region outfielder as a freshman and was an all-district first team pick as a sophomore.

Chowan won the CIAA conference regular season and tournament championship in 2010, advancing to the Division II regional tournament. Last season, the Hawks won the CIAA regular season championship and lost in the tournament finals. Chowan advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association World Series in 2009 before entering the CIAA in 2010.
