Joyce Ann Nelson, age 77, of Hayes, died on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at Riverside Doctors Hospital in Williamsburg. On July 20, 1948, she was born to the late Thomas Odell Brown Sr. and Annie Elizabeth West Brown. Joyce was a dedicated mother, a loving wife, and a master of her kitchen, filling our home with warmth and wonderful meals for the family. In addition to her parents, daughter, Tracy Murphy; sisters, Virginia Brown and Mary Lee Horsley, and brothers, Paul Brown, Lank Brown, and Billy Brown, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Gerald “Jerry”; daughter, Connie Greene; sister, Ellie Mae Holloway; and brother, Thomas Odell Brown Jr.; grandchildren, Miranda Murphy, Danielle Woodard; special sister-in-law, Kay Brown, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service, conducted by the Rev. Richard Croxton, was held at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 1 p.m. Friends gathered at the cemetery.
