JOSEPH ROY KING JR.

Joseph Roy King Jr., 71, of Hayes, died Feb. 9, 2019, at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

A Gloucester native and Vietnam veteran, Roy graduated from Gloucester High School in 1966 and obtained a B.S. in Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University in 1982. For many years he was a well technician for Brown’s Well Drilling.

He was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church and a member of the Achilles Masonic Lodge No. 281 AF & AM. He was an avid reader, had a love for history and enjoyed country music and the Beatles. He had an infectious smile, kind spirit, a zest for life and always lent a helping hand to anyone who needed him.

Roy was a man of integrity and honor and will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Roy King, and brother, Robert Wayne King.

Roy is survived by his mother, Lois B. King; sister, J. Sharon Heywood; niece, Stephanie Booker (Roane); great-nieces, Morgan and Andrea Booker; two very special friends, Charles Clarke and Sandra Hogge.

A graveside funeral service with Masonic Rites was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. Friends were asked to assemble at the cemetery. The family greeted friends Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, from 6-7 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

Arrangements were under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home and Crematory, Gloucester Point.
