JOSEPH PATRICK FOX

Joseph Patrick Fox, 68, passed away on Nov. 8, 2015, surrounded by his family at home in Newport News.

He was born in Paterson, N.J., and was the son of Joseph Edmund Fox and Mary Blad Fox. His family has always been the center of his life and he was the fourth of eight children: Peter (Kay) Fox, Paul (Kathy) Fox, Mary Fox, John (Ginger Monarch) Fox, Evelyn (Bruce) Manziello, Mike (Janet) Fox, and Lawrence (Anne) Fox.

He was a graduate of New York University. He had a long career as a systems analyst and retired from Pier IX in Newport News. He volunteered his time with Virginia Peninsula Food Bank, Peninsula Community Theater, the Ferguson Center and was honored as a lifetime member of Abingdon Volunteer Rescue Squad.

He is survived by his children, Megan (Scott) Countiss, Melissa Hooks, Karl (Angie) Fox, Angie Payson, and Amy (Josh) Bailey. He was the beloved “Papa Joe” to his grandchildren, Madison, Anna, Jake, Joe, Addison, and lots of other children in his life.

He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, and countless community events. He was always seeking new adventures and experiences. His sense of curiosity and enthusiasm will always be an inspiration to all that knew him.

Tree planting and dedication will take place on Nov. 28, 11 a.m., at Hilton Park, 225 River Road, Newport News, Va.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Noland Trail Fund at The Mariners’ Museum, Newport News.
