JOSEPH E. ROWE

Joseph E. “Bubba” Rowe, 92, of Lake Pleasant, N.Y. and Bena, passed away May 5, 2015 at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester, Va.

He was a native of Gloucester County and for the last 20 years had resided in Lake Pleasant, N.Y.

Joe was a fisherman during his early years, then carpentry in home construction and later working in the woodworking shop at William and Mary College from which he retired. He was a master woodworking craftsman. Joe was a longtime member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church. He enjoyed living in New York, but always looked forward twice a year coming to his home on the Perrin Creek at Bena. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Madeline Rowe; first wife, Elizabeth Smith Rowe; sisters, Thelma Shackelford, Elizabeth Rowe and Susie Pyles.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Rowe; niece, Brenda Horsley; nephews, Carlton Harper and Kenneth Shackelford; great-nieces and -nephews, cousins and a host of friends; and his loving cat, Molly.

Graveside funeral service conducted by the Rev. William Weaver and the Rev. Carol Bookwalter was held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Gloucester Point Cemetery. Friends assembled at the cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, May 12, 2015, from 7-8 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.

Following the committal, friends joined the family for a reception at Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 2101 Mark Pine Road, Hayes, Va. 23072.
