John Smith of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, April 22, 2018, in the VA Hospital from complications due to diabetes. He was 74 years old.

John was born at home in Blakes to the late Maurice K. and Pearl R. Smith and was one of five children. He was a 1962 graduate of Mathews High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in Albuquerque, after which John stayed in Albuquerque and became a building contractor.

His parents and a brother, Maurice K. Smith Jr., preceded him in death.

John is survived by his daughter, Julie C. Coffman (Phil) of Florida; grandchildren, Alexandra, Hannah and Nathan; his son, Stephen E. of New Mexico; grandsons, Carson and Gavin; a sister, Judy Durick of Maryland; brothers, Nelson Smith (Barbara) of Richmond and Allen Smith (Bonnie) of Dutton.

A memorial service will be held May 19 at the American Legion Building, Hookemfair Road, Hudgins, at 2 p.m.; reception to follow.
