A celebration of life service will be held for John Maurice Levy, 77, of Gloucester, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, at the Lake Matoaka Amphitheater at William and Mary in Williamsburg. Rain location will be Trinkle Hall. He died April 2, 2017.
He was born in Washington, D.C.; after graduating from New York University he joined the Peace Corps and served in Nigeria, West Africa, as a teacher.
His long career as a teacher of law at the College of William and Mary touched the lives of many students. His work with Legal Aid and the ACLU-VA extended over many years, as did his time as a board member of the Williamsburg/JCC Community Action Agency.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Kaye; daughter, Shanti of Reston; son, Adam of Winchester; sister, Sue Hal-pern of Potomac, Maryland, and six grandchildren.
