JOHN L. HARTMAN SR.

John L. Hartman Sr., 71, of Hayes, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family Dec. 3, 2015.

Formerly from Kerens, W.Va., John served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired fire fighter from Langley AFB and the Coast Guard Station, Yorktown. For the past 32 years he was the owner of Hartman’s Trophies. John was a member of the Achilles Masonic Lodge No. 281 AF & AM and a member of the West Virginia Lonesome Polecat Rampage.

He loved spending time with his grandkids, sharing a meal, watching old TV movies, traveling to West Virginia and cheering on his Mountaineers. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claire and Grace Hartman, and brothers, Bill and Elwood Hartman.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Mary Hartman; daughters, Donna Gaddis (Jeff) and Tonja Hartman (Adam); son, John Hartman Jr. (Lynda); sister, Betty Gotshall (Al); eight grandchildren, Colette Gaddis (Jason), John Gaddis (Savannah), Joshua, MacKenzie and Zachary Hartman, Zeften Steinour, Hunter Collier and Joey McComas; great-grandchild, Ashton Gaddis; numerous nieces and nephews; three very dear friends, John Coats, Bear Graves and Robert Thompson.

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Richard Whiteheart was held 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2015 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family greeted friends prior to the service on Sunday from 1:30-3 p.m. at the funeral home.
