John Hershey Emerson, 83, passed away on Thursday, July 16, 2015, in Gloucester, Va.

He was born in New York City and was raised in Gloucester County. He was the son of the late Josh and Georgia Dutton Emerson, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Bellamy United Methodist Church, and had a great love of bluegrass music and played in several groups.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Emerson; his son, Norman J. Emerson; stepsons, Terry M. Lynn and Mark Mott-Lynn; his brother, Dennis Emerson (Bonnie); his grandchildren, Brenda and Whitney; nephew, Charles Crocket Jr.; two nieces, Pamela and Jennifer.

Funeral services will be private.
