JOHN HENRY DAVIS JR.

John Henry Davis Jr., 74, of Hayes, died Oct. 7, 2011 at Walter Reed Convalescent Center.

John worked mostly on the water and did painting. He was a kind and caring man who loved having a cup of coffee with his friends at Hardee’s. He appreciated the little things in life and was a good friend, and he would talk to everybody, never saying anything bad, only finding the best in everyone. John enjoyed working his booth at the flea market. He loved his wife, and they were married for 45 years. He will be dearly missed by all.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Walter Reed Convalescent Center for the wonderful care and support given to John and his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. Davis Sr. and Roselle W. Davis; sisters, Mertie Belvin, Melissa West and Rosa Lee Brown, and brother, Cecil Davis.

He is survived by wife, Mabel Davis; sister, Shirley Harless, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral service conducted by Pastor Edward Ewell was held 2 p.m. Sunday at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends assembled at the cemetery. The family received friends Saturday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. At other times the family will be at the home of Leroy and Mary Oliver, 8682 Guinea Road, Hayes.
