JOHN GREENE CORLEY II

John Greene Corley II, 92, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016, at the VA Hospital Hospice. He was a native of Richmond, Virginia, and a resident of Gloucester, Virginia, for 30 years.  

He was an Air Force pilot for 28 years and retired as a Lt. Col. He served as a Command Pilot, with 4,000 flying hours in 14 different types of aircraft in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star for Merit, Air Force Commendation Medal, and nine OLC Air Medals.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robin Cole Corley; parents, Frank W. and Mary T. Corley; brothers, Frank W. Corley, Henry P.T. Corley, and Alexander Corley.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Peggy C. Corley; son, John G. Corley III (Jenny), and two grandchildren, Sarah Beth Corley (James Krakowski) and Emily Grace Corley.

A graveside service was held at Maury Cemetery in Richmond on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at 2 p.m.
