A funeral service for John Foster Newcomb, 76, of Bena, was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 15 in Bellamy Methodist Church, Gloucester. He died March 10, 2016.

Born April 23, 1939 in Richmond to the late John S. Newcomb and Helen Foster Newcomb, he was raised at White Marsh.

After graduating from Virginia Tech with a degree in Engineering Mechanics, he joined the NASA Langley Research Center. Throughout his career, he authored or co-authored over 35 technical papers. 

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Peggy; three daughters, Helen Van Orden, Dorothy West and Aubrey Rachel; and five grandchildren.

Burial was in Bellamy Memorial Cemetery following the service.
