JOHN CLIFFORD ‘CLIFF’ ROBBINS

John Clifford “Cliff” Robbins, age 87, lifelong resident of Gloucester, died on Sunday, May 18, 2025, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Cliff was born on February 9, 1938, to John and Jessie Robbins. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, Cliff returned to Gloucester where he met and married his loving wife of almost 64 years, Annie. Cliff was a longtime member of Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church and, in more recent years, Severn Church. While at Groves he served in several capacities over the years as Deacon, Elder, Treasurer, and Adult Sunday School teacher. Cliff enjoyed a long career in insurance sales earning multiple awards and incentive trips which he and Annie enjoyed. He retired from American General Life Insurance Company. In retirement Cliff enjoyed gardening, working crossword puzzles and word games, attending his grandsons’ sporting and school events, and spending time with family. He and Annie enjoyed traveling to various states over the years to visit their daughters and grandchildren. Cliff was preceded in death by parents, John William Robbins and Jessie Irene Robbins, and nephew, Chris Turlington. Cliff is survived by wife Annie; daughters, Tammy Ramsey (Mark) and Johna Pitchford (Jeff); grandsons, John Ramsey, Logan Pitchford and Luke Pitchford; brother, Douglas Robbins (Nancy), and sister, Jackie Turlington; nieces and nephews, Carrie Provensen, Kim Sandler, Sara Hall, Gena Allen, Selena Lehman, Donna Smith, and Stanley Grigelis; and special great-nieces and -nephews. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Gloucester Point Cemetery, beginning at 11 a.m., conducted by Pastor Arthur Wolz. In memory of Cliff, contributions may be made to Abingdon Volunteer Fire & Rescue at P.O. Box 9, Bena, Va. 23018.
