JIM R. HUDGENS

Jim R. Hudgens, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, January 12, 2024, at Select Medical Hospital in Newport News, Virginia. He was born on May 28, 1945 in McDonald County, Missouri, to Joseph (Joe) Hudgens and Hazel Hudgens.

While serving honorably in the Navy in Maine, he met the love of his life, Sally La-France. Jim and Sally were married on May 7, 1966 in Bar Harbor, Maine.

In addition to his military service, he also worked for the U.S. Federal Government in various roles over 48 years. Jim retired from Jefferson Labs as a Contracting Manager, a role he continued to be proud of for the rest of his life. Jim believed in service to his country, and he lived that belief.

When not working, he enjoyed being with his family and he was always adding to his knowledge. He was a voracious reader, and he would find something that fascinated him on any topic. Our father will be remembered most for his great sense of humor and compassion.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sally Hudgens, and daughters, Laura Vicik and Judith Hudgens, and their husbands, Gregg Vicik and Graeme Smith, as well as sister, Judy Smith, and brother, Gary Hudgens; brother-in-law, Eric LaFrance; granddaughter, Chechnia Vicik, and godson, Justin LaFrance.

Jim will be interred at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Ellsworth, Maine, where a graveside homily will be held at 12 p.m. on June 6, 2024. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Altmeyer Funeral Homes Riverside Chapel, Newport News, Va., and Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Ellsworth, Maine.
