Jesse Waverly White Jr., 80, of Gloucester, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Jesse was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Jesse married his high school sweetheart, Cathie Allen, and would have been married for 59 years this November. His survivors include his wife, Cathie; daughters, Grace Small (Peter) and Cindy Gray (Jamie); grandchildren, Carlyn Lefkowits (Zakk) and Roane Gray; great-granddaughter, Adelyn Lefkowits, and sister, Sandra Ziehm. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Virginia White; his sisters, Joanne Allamby and Lynn Jenkins. Jesse served his country in the Navy for four years and then worked at Newport News Shipbuilding for 41 years. He loved spending time with his family, working in his yard and his wood shop. The only thing that came before working in the yard and the wood shop was fishing with family and friends. He was an avid sports fisherman, flounder being his favorite, and held numerous state citations for his catches. Jesse had a gentle soul and could talk to anybody. He will be greatly missed and will be remembered for his devotion to those he loved. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Hogg Funeral Home on Friday, October 3, 2025, conducted by Pastor Bill West, beginning at 3 p.m. The inurnment is private.
