Jerry M. Thompson, 77, died at Riverside Regional Hospital on July 22, 2016.

He was born October 29, 1938, in North Carolina. Jerry joined the Navy right out of high school; after seeing the world and serving his country, Jerry settled in Gloucester, Virginia, and began working for NASA.

He loved farming, fishing, visiting the beach, and anything that had to do with being outdoors. Jerry loved learning new things and sharing his knowledge with others. He was a patient and loving man who never met a stranger. Above all, Jerry cherished spending time with his family and making special moments together; he will be missed, but always remembered. 

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Elizabeth Thompson. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Hallie B. Thompson; sons, Tim Thompson, Jimmy Thompson and Ken Thompson; stepdaughter, Betty Horsley and husband Mike, and Annette Cottee and husband Donnie; stepson, Michael Lee Green and wife Theresa; brothers, Delroy and Bill; sisters, Bobbie Jo and Magetta; 15 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. 

A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Bill West was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2016, at Hogg Funeral Home; interment followed in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery. The family received friends, Monday, July 25, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
