Jerry Alonzo Davis, age 74, of North, Mathews County, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and his faithful canine companion, Ralph. Born and raised in the heart of Buchanan County (Grundy) to the late Lonzo and Cleo Smith Davis, Jerry was a man built from the strength of the mountains. He graduated from Grundy High School and spent his early years working in the coal mines, a profession that demanded grit and dedication. Though he was injured in a mining accident, Jerry never let that hardship dim his gentle, kind spirit or his reputation as an exceptional man. He moved to Mathews County to live with his daughter and son-in-law and found much peace being around his family, and was rarely seen without Ralph and Silas by his side. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Shari Davis Pruitt and husband Paul of North, Mathews County; stepsons, Barry Caldwell of Los Angeles, Calif., and Bryan Caldwell and wife Robin of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandchildren, Matthew Young and wife Haylee of Middleton, Fla., Phillip Young and wife Macy of Hayes, Va., Jessica Sills of Fayetteville, Hailey Caldwell of Los Angeles; great-grandson and the light of his life, Silas William Young, and faithful K9 grand pup and best friend, Ralph Pruitt; brother, Larry Joe Davis and wife Lexie of Vansant, Va.; nephew, Todd Davis and wife Tammy of Hurley, Va., as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends he considered as his family. A graveside service conducted by Pastor Bill West will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2026, at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. To honor his kind spirit and special bond with Ralph, please consider making a memorial contribution to the Friends of Gloucester County Animal Control, 6584 Beehive Drive, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
