Jerre G. Ashberry, age 86, of Foster, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018.

Jerre was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was the owner of Ashberry & Son, Inc., Hardware and Heating Oil in Portsmouth, for many years. Later he was the owner of Mathews Carpet Cleaning. He was a member of Tidal Wave Masonic Lodge 273 in Portsmouth for 60 years, the Scottish Rite Temple also in Portsmouth, and the Khedive Shriners Temple in Chesapeake where he was part of the Clown Unit. Jerre was also a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Foster. 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Ashberry. 

Survivors include his children, Randy and Holly Ashberry, Jerilee and Scott Smith, Eddie Wright, Bill and Sue Wright, Cheryl and Allan MacDonald, and Tim and Kim Wright. He also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Shugie. 

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, 160 Main Street, Mathews, Va. 23109. Visitation at 12:30 p.m. was held at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment with Masonic Rites followed at H.C. Smither Cemetery, Hudgins.

The family would like to thank Keith and Mary Anne Faulkner for their love and care of our father before and during his illness. Words cannot express how thankful we are for all they have done. We would also like to thank Riverside Hospice and Dreama Schlegel for their compassionate care.
